    Nipun Lakshay

Nipun Bharat is a nationwide campaign in India aimed at eradicating the social evil of manual scavenging. Manual scavenging refers to the practice of manually cleaning, carrying, disposing of, or handling human excreta from dry latrines and sewers. It has been a deeply entrenched problem in India, perpetuating caste-based discrimination and violating human rights.

Nipun Bharat, launched in 2021, seeks to mobilize various stakeholders including government agencies, civil society organizations, local communities, and individuals to work towards the complete elimination of manual scavenging. The campaign focuses on implementing alternative technologies for sanitation, providing skill development and rehabilitation support to manual scavengers, and raising awareness to change societal attitudes towards sanitation work.

The name “Nipun Bharat” can be translated to “Skilled India,” reflecting the campaign’s emphasis on empowering manual scavengers with skills and opportunities for dignified livelihoods. The ultimate goal of Nipun Bharat is to create a society where all individuals are treated with dignity and respect, regardless of their occupation or social status.
